Hi, I'm Carla Della Beffa, a visual and video artist and a student of life. My work is about connecting experiences and sharing knowledge and emotions: that's why I can be a good choice as an international artist-in-residence in universities, foundations or museums. If you are among them, trust me, even if you can't yet find many reassuring big names in my story. Be the first. If you're reading this, you're curious about me, and intellectual curiosity is one of the sources of my art. Others are empathy, beauty and change. My interdisciplinary projects require a solitary research followed by a collaborative phase. The resulting video is the tip of the creative process. I complement it with words, drawings, photos, and plan to expand to three-dimensional, site-specific installations. I started painting in 1993, just before the international advertising agency where I was creative director dismissed me. I discovered the Internet in 1996: slow modems inspired my technologically simple net-art and website. Went on to digital photography, two published books, video art. Change is the key: I need the evolution. Commuting for thirteen years between Milan and Paris gave me a new point of view. Now I'm ready to travel to other inspiring places, to realize the kind of big, complex projects I can't do alone. My family name, Della Beffa, means joke. I have been involved in social and feminist issues, singing at friends' marriages, living through a marriage of my own, reading everything printed, chick-lit and cooking books included. I love red wine but not pasta, unlike your typical Italian. Want to know me better? Go back to my homepage to see all phases of my art. Read my artist's statement.
